We are open and conducting classes in the studio and virtually on zoom!
Here at Roots Yoga Studio, (formerly Sacred Souls Yoga Studio) we’ve been teaching yoga classes in Jersey City since 2015. Our classes focus on "healing." Whether it’s a recent weight gain, injury, health issue, or mental or emotional stress that's affecting you - we help you use yoga and it’s various teachings to help get you back to feeling whole and in charge of your life.
Our classes are taught in the traditional Hatha Yoga style. Hatha Yoga differs from other styles in that we generally move through postures a little slower. This helps break up any old patterns of stress in the mind and body and gets you feeling more in touch with yourself so you can uncover the root causes of any mental, physical, or emotional blockage or imbalance.
Besides postures, each class also includes breathing exercises (pranayama) and meditation to help you go deeper into your yourself and find that inner silence and stillness.
On our class schedule, you will find our two specialty classes - Yoga for Stress Relief and Yoga for Weight Loss, along with Yoga for Beginners, Intermediate Yoga, and Advanced Yoga
So, Here's How We Get You Started:
1. Each new student fills out a questionnaire about their health/wellness concerns & goals they'd like to work towards.
This helps us get to know you better, and to find the right class to match your needs.
2. For those who are new to yoga, or have little experience - we have classes that are specifically for them.
And we promise, our beginner classes are TRULY for beginners. If you've ever taken other yoga classes where you were just struggling to keep up, or feel you are too inflexible for yoga, or not made for it, this class is for you. These classes are gentle and designed to meet you where you are at so you leave feeling relaxed and refreshed !
3. Students with more experience, can find themselves a challenge in our intermediate/advanced classes.
Here we take on more rigorous poses and breathing exercises, so that you can grow & deepen in your practice. You must have previous experience before joining these classes.
4. Lastly, we let all our students know they are not in this alone. We keep in touch to make sure they are getting the support they need.
We are always available to answer any questions or concerns students may have at the end of class, or over the phone/text. There is also a Facebook and Instagram page which you can follow, along with a WhatsApp group where we post tips on self-care, yoga, meditation, diet, etc. to help keep you in-track for a healthier lifestyle.
So why wait?
Founder & Instructor
Yoga was present in my life from a young age. I remember as a child there were yoga books around the house, and sometimes I would look through them and try poses. But my curiosity was not much more than that until college, when I started struggling with anxiety and depression. I tried everything I could think of, and nothing helped. Then one day a friend introduced me to yoga, and I was drawn to it immediately! My anxiety vanished within just a few weeks of practicing and my depression was gone after a couple months. I was left amazed that something like this existed and actually helped me!
After some time practicing on my own, I understood that I needed a teacher. So I decided to get my certification and completed my Teacher Training course at Atmananda Yoga in Manhattan, where I taught classes before I decided to open my own studio. Now, after teaching for almost 7 years, and through my own journey and practice I have realized that people come to yoga for all sorts of reasons, and with different goals in mind - and yet yoga truly is able to help them each in the way they need. My style of teaching is intuitive and receptive, where each class is treated as a moving meditation. Meditation is weaved throughout my class while we move through simple and complex postures and breathing exercises.
Some words from my students
"Komal and Sacred Souls Yoga Studio came into my life when I needed it the most. I had dibbled and dabbled in yoga before, but never felt quite connected to it. That was until I met Komal! She has an amazing energy about her and gives you space to feel the moments."
"The studio's intimate and warm space, matches the demeanor of its instructor, Komal. Her gentle guidance through deceptively simple poses invite quiet exploration. Here, one can sit alone and focus and hear those thoughts running...and let them all go."
- Lisa Perez
"What a gem this yoga studio is in the heart of Journal Square!
A true sanctuary to practice a gentle form of Hatha Yoga for
beginners and more experienced students as well.
The instructor, Komal, has created a very comfortable environment
and is very helpful in the needs of each individual student as she
guides each class. She has an intuitive sense of what each individual needs and leads each class with a calm steady flow with slight variations from class to class which keep it interesting and fresh."
- William Charas
"The small intimate space allows for great personalized attention from the instructor. Very different from some other studios where you are lost in a sea of faces.
The instructor, Komal, is amazingly grounded and intent on your personal development in yoga. I love that each class is a fluid experience that includes poses, meditation, breathing exercises and relaxation."
"While I was going through a tough time in my life, I decided to try alternative methods to help me get over my obstacles and eventually be able to enjoy my life. After visiting more than a couple of yoga studios website's I came across Sacred Souls Yoga studio and something told me that this was the place. I can only speak from my own experience; I have not only found a fantastic yoga instructor but a beautiful human being. Komal is caring, passionate and her energy made me feel at home."
